Attwater Prairie Chicken NWR

The Attwater Prairie Chicken NWR, outside Sealy, TX, was established to support two large leks of these birds. Between March and April, males put on quite a display in their quest to impress the females. Since 2011, the members of the Aransas Bird and Nature Club and the Audubon Outdoor Club have been offered a special tour of this refuge on a weekend not usually open to the general public.

The management of the reserve is hoping to hold the Attwater’s Prairie Chicken Festival in 2022 and has permitted us to visit the weekend before the event, thus ensuring a much less-crowded experience. We will be limiting the number of people to 11 so be sure to secure your spot early!

Sealy, Texas is about 190 miles from Corpus Christi. We recommend you arrange to spend Friday night near the refuge to ensure you are onsite by 6:45am and ready for the 7am van departure.

To reserve your spot for this exclusive opportunity, contact Claudia Dorn at 361.813.5767.
