HawkWatch Update - September 22, 2016

Dane Ferrell provided this update on the 2016 Season - We are seeing several thousand Broad-winged Hawks each day now (knock on wood).

We set a Site record for Mississippi Kites with over 34,000 counted so far - we are still seeing fair numbers currently.

Swallow-tailed Kites were nice to us as well - over 140, and counting.

2 Bald Eagles thus far...3 dark morph Broad-winged Hawks, and several dark morph Swainson's Hawks...

A few dozen Peregrine Falcons... A point blank Zone-tailed Hawk 2 days ago...

Non-Raptor goodies include a male Cerulean Warbler, and a male Hooded Oriole...

Local treats: Green Kingfisher, Groove-billed Ani, Harris's Hawk, White-tailed Kite, White-tailed Hawk...

A late reminder: this weekend(09/23 through 09/25), is our Celebration of Flight Festival - complete with featured speaker

Neil Paprocki from Hawk Watch International; an awesome Bird show; activities for Kids conducted by our friend Chad Huckabee and other Master Naturalists; vendor booths; and hopefully thousands of migrating raptors.

All activities are free of charge - so please come out and see us at Hazel Bazemore County Park!
