Field Trip to Knolle Farms - Sandhill Cranes, Geese and Much More

Karen Smith, leader  361-877-9723

Bring a picnic lunch if you wish.
Place to meet:  The Knolle home (bathroom facilities will be available)

NOTE: Directions to the Knolle Farms field trip location have been modified as follows (due to a road being closed for bridge repairs).Leaving Calallen on FM 624, continue west until FM 666 (Bluntzer, a four-way stop).

Turn right onto FM 666 and go 0.7 miles and turn left onto FM 3088.

Continue until the end of FM 3088 and turn right onto FM 70.

Continue on FM 70. The road will take a sharp left. After that, continue 1 mile and you have reached the Knolle gate on the left. Go through the gate and drive up to the house.

Pearson Knolle suggests that, weather permitting, we travel the roads in the area and drive back into some of the pasture areas.  He also mentioned Murphy Farm as a different place to visit.  This property has a restored 1875 home and excellent birding habitat.  A stop at the Knolle house is scheduled for a bathroom break before proceeding to our picnic area.  Pearson will provide a flatbed trailer out along the river for us to use for our picnic.  The field trip will end at this point but everyone will be welcome to continue birding the area.
